Religious Christian Carving
Religion - Christianity
This 17th Century Indo Portuguese carving represents God the Father and the Holy Spirit, and would have formed part of the apex of a group of
Christ as Good Shepherd, carved in Goa, India probably in the 17th century.
Superb carving, recently looked at by the British Museum. In His left hand is the orb, centre sits the dove, and whatever was in his right hand (perhaps a cross?) has been broken away. Age splitting to the back (see photo), not all the way through. A hole either side where it would have been fixed, also a hole through the top of the papal crown vertically down the centre of the piece.
Measurements approximately 46 x 38mms at widest points
